This is a live musical show-band and review based on the Blues Brothers characters originally created by Saturday Night Live comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. Backed by an eight-piece band (with horn section), the show is an entertaining and accurate portrayal of the Blues Brothers Texas live stage act; even in a medium-sized nightclub, audience members become part of the show. Founded in 1983, they played numerous d Razz-Ma-Tazz in June of 1985, the band became increasingly popular and in-demand. appearances at special events, including participation in numerous radio-sponsored concerts and charity benefit performances (some attended by 20,000 or more people) indicated that the general mass appeal of the Blues Brothers – and the connection they had found with audiences – were complementing each other. In many cases they are the “hit of the event” simply because of the appearance of “Jake” and “Elwood” – and the strength of the backing band’s performance. Rather than put forth a “parody” or “Blues Brothers-esque” type performance, they strive for as authentic a performance as possible. The wide appeal of the Blues Brothers characters cannot be overlooked. Since the original appearance of Belushi & Aykroyd’s characters in 1978 on two separate Saturday Night Live shows, the Blues Brothers phenomenon has been responsible for five albums (all still in print), a smash comedy motion-picture (still airing 2 to 3 times a year on several national television networks, available on videotape), a VIDEO GAME (still available on Super Nintendo), and scores of cards, posters, T-shirts and more with the images of “Jake” and “Elwood”. Tunes from the albums (such as their rendition of “Soul Man”) are in rotation on the classic rock-format radio stations; at Halloween, costume shops consistently sell out or rent out all of their black suits and black porkpie hats for Blues Brothers costumes.
